Description: Princeton University Library seeks an innovative
service-oriented manager to lead the Firestone Library Reserve/General
Periodical Services unit. The Reserve/General Periodical Services unit is
one of three within the Circulation Services Division and is comprised of
5.5 support staff and approximately 20 student assistants. The Library
employs the Voyager integrated library management system for core
circulation functions. The Reserve/General Periodical Services team leader
has overall responsibility for management of the Reserve/General Periodical
services, comprising the Library's primary print and electronic course
reserve service, a general periodicals collection of approximately 4,200
journals and 200+ international newspapers. The incumbent will set the work
priorities, initiate staffing assignments, direct the workflow, and manage
the staff of the unit. She or he will communicate with the University
faculty and academic department staff about the services provided by the
unit, interpreting and explaining policies and overseeing the processing of
material for reserve. The incumbent will also monitor the application of
copyright and fair use principles and coordinate such application with
relevant office such as the Office of Information Technology and the Office
of the General Counsel. The Reserve/General Periodical Services team leader
serves as one of the library's key liaisons to the University's Office of
Information Technology in matters that relate to library circulation and
reserve services, such as development of Blackboard course management
software. He or she will also play a role in the development and
implementation of a future digitization service for the Princeton University
faculty. The incumbent must be a proactive leader in a dynamic, rapidly
changing work environment focused on the continuous improvement and
expansion of patron access services and must be dedicated to and capable of
developing staff to support such services. It is expected that the
Reserve/General Periodical Services team leader will keep current with
trends in reserve and related user services.
This position reports to the Circulation Services Director. 

Qualifications:Required: Bachelor's degree. A minimum of 3 years supervisory
and management experience on a scale and of a complexity sufficient to
indicate the likelihood of success in the position being advertised.
Knowledge of, and experience with, Microsoft Office suite of applications,
especially MS-Access and Excel; and with course management software, such as
Blackboard. Relevant knowledge of and experience with library circulation
systems (Voyager preferred), access services and supporting technology.
Experience which demonstrates a strong service orientation and a commitment
to staff development; strong interpersonal skills; strong team work and team
building skills; strong planning, organization and problem-solving skills;
strong oral and written communication skills; and well-developed computer
skills.

Preferred:MLS from an ALA accredited institution or equivalent combination
of education and professional experience. Knowledge of and experience with
online library information services and data bases; contemporary
interlibrary loan and/or document delivery systems and services; and
web-authoring software, such as Dreamweaver. Experience with catalog
maintenance functions or other relevant online record management.
Familiarity with trends in copyright law as they relate to library practices
is highly desirable. 

Compensation and Benefits: Compensation will be competitive and commensurate
with experience and accomplishments. Twenty-four (24) vacation days a year,
plus eleven (11) paid holidays. Health care insurance, and disability
insurance and other benefits are available.
