The Princeton University Library comprises a large central library and 15
specialized libraries that are heavily used by an academic community that
includes 6,400 students and 1,100 faculty members. To support the diverse
needs of its users, the Library holds some six million printed volumes,
ranging from incunabula to current imprints, and provides access to many
other records of human knowledge, such as ancient papyri and cylinder seals,
nineteenth-century literary manuscripts, and recently produced electronic
databases and journals. The Library employs more than 300 professional and
support personnel, complemented by a large student and hourly workforce.

Description: The Princeton University Library seeks an accomplished and
energetic Human Resources Librarian to lead its Office of Human Resources.
Reporting to the University Librarian, the Human Resources Librarian is a
member of the library's senior management group and serves as the library's
principal liaison to the University's Office of Human Resources and the
Office of the Dean of the Faculty. The Human Resources Librarian's portfolio
includes managing the recruitment, hiring, and retention of staff;
coordinating programs for performance review, salary review, classification
review, and promotion; overseeing management development and staff training
activities; interpreting personnel policies and procedures; counseling
staff; and acting as the library's diversity officer. The Human Resources
Librarian serves on all search committees for professional positions and has
responsibility for coordinating activities associated with librarians'
governance, such as elections and the process for achieving continuing
appointment and promotion. The Human Resources Librarian also is a member of
the Labor-Management Committee associated with the library's unionized
support staff, and s/he participates in contract negotiations and ensures
contract compliance. The Human Resources Librarian maintains a close working
relationship with the other human resources professionals on campus and
communicates regularly with the human resources offices at other major
research libraries. The Human Resources Librarian supervises two
administrative staff and the Training Specialist Librarian.
Qualifications: MS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution, or equivalent
combination of education and professional experience. A minimum of five
years of experience in human resources administration, preferably in a
university or research library, and experience supervising professional and
support staff. Other qualifications include demonstrated ability to work
successfully with all categories of staff; demonstrated strength in oral and
written communications; and demonstrated ability to handle personnel matters
equitably, sensitively, and confidentially. Candidates will be expected to
show a commitment to fostering an inclusive, progressive, and satisfying
workplace; they must also be knowledgeable about the changing academic
library, particularly with reference to the renewed emphasis on user
services, wider applications of technology, and the reorganization of
traditional library work.
Compensation and Benefits: Compensation will be competitive and commensurate
with experience and accomplishments. Twenty-four (24) vacation days a year,
plus eleven (11) paid holidays. Annuity program (TIAA/CREF), group life
insurance, health coverage insurance, disability insurance, and other
benefits are available.
