Description: Princeton University Library seeks an innovative service-oriented manager to lead the Library's Borrow Direct rapid book delivery service. The Administrative Head participates in the daily work and oversees the daily management of the service and works closely with staff in resolving daily issues concerning policies, production, and service standards. This position is within the Circulation Services Division and is responsible for the supervision of .5 FTE permanent staff and 15 - 20 student assistants. The Library employs the Voyager integrated library management system for core circulation functions. This supervisor maintains the service's web presence, updates procedures manuals, keeps and reports statistics, monitors records, and hires, trains, and evaluates support staff and numerous student assistants. Working closely with colleagues across the Princeton Library system and with members of the Borrow Direct consortia, the Head also conducts staff information and training sessions on related systems as required, and suggests strategies and practices for making delivery of library materials from any site a seamless and simple process for users. Some flexibility in scheduling will be required; the Head will be required to work some evenings and weekends in order to meet deadlines. In addition, the Head serves on relevant internal and external committees related to Interlibrary Loan and Borrow Direct operations, and assesses and implements new document-delivery software as necessary. The position reports to the Circulation Services Director.
Requirements: A Bachelors degree. A strong commitment to serving library patrons is required as well as a minimum of two years academic library experience, preferably in an interlibrary loan or public services position. Familiarity with national bibliographic tools and automated systems that support interlibrary or document delivery services. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with automation and developing technology. Previous supervisory experience, and demonstrated supervisory skills. Evidence of leadership skills and an ability to work successfully in a critical position with heavy service demands. Ability to organize and prioritize work for self and others. Effective oral and written communication skills and a strong command of English, flexibility, good judgment and a record of harmonious team involvement. Demonstrated ability to work with sensitive and confidential information in an appropriate manner.
Preferred: Bibliographic knowledge of one or more foreign languages. Knowledge of and experience with online library information services and databases; contemporary interlibrary loan and/or document delivery systems and services; and web-authoring software, such as Dreamweaver. Familiarity with trends in copyright law as they relate to library practices is desirable.
Compensation and Benefits: Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience and accomplishments. Twenty-four (24) vacation days a year, plus eleven (11) paid holidays. Annuity program (TIAA/CREF), group life insurance, health coverage insurance, disability insurance, and other benefits are available.
Salary & Rank: Dependent upon qualifications and experience.
