Greetings!
You are receiving this message for one of the following
reasons:
1) You expressed an interest in participating in a
potential program in New Orleans next year as part of
the LLAMA/SASS Circ & Access Services Committee.
2) You met me at ALA Annual 2010 in Washington, DC and
we discussed the idea.
3) You are a professional colleague with interest or
expertise in the area of Access Services.
4) Your spam filter is broken.
Here's what I sent to the LLAMA Program Committee in July:
FEAST (Future & Emerging Access Services Trends)
Why choose between presentations when you can come to
one FEAST? Future & Emerging Access Services Trends
(FEAST) gives you multiple speakers and topics in one
90 minute session. Hear practitioners and experts
discuss what's new or just around the corner in
circulation, shelving, reserves, interlibrary loan,
offsite storage and more in short seven minute courses.
Fresh and timely. Never frozen. There's always plenty
to choose from at the FEAST!
Now comes the interesting part. One of these speakers
is you! The idea is to have 7 or 8 people speak for a
few minutes on something new, fresh and innovative in
the area of Access Services. This could be anything
that you choose, as long as it's current and relatively
unexplored within the profession. For example - no one
wants to hear a presentation on wikis or blogs --
they've been done to death since 2005!
I already know that not all of you will want to speak.
I also know that we have colleagues out there looking
for a chance to speak. This isn't a forum for the same
old speakers to show up and prognosticate. This can
also be a showcase for new voices and new talent.
Having just worked in a university setting that
required professional involvement for tenure, I know
the pressures of looking for a presentation
opportunity. This can be that opportunity for someone
you know with something to add to the conversation. As
I explained when presenting the idea to the LLAMA
Program Committee, this is the launching pad for an
ongoing series -- much in the way LITA has Top Tech
Trends. Access Services is a big umbrella that covers a
number of areas in the day-to-day operations of all
types of libraries. We should always have something to
talk about.
I don't need to hear from anyone today. Think the idea
through and let it percolate for a couple of weeks. If
you're coming to San Diego for ALA Midwinter in
January, there will be time to discuss it all. While I
do need to finalize the list of speakers soon, the
topics can wait a while.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts!
Thanks,
Paul
