Dear CPS Librarians:
You are invited to attend the December Virtual Librarian
Learning Community meeting on Monday, December 10 from 8pm –
9pm in Second Life. We will discuss the new American
Association of School Librarians (AASL) standard #2 -
"Learners use skills, resources, and tools to draw
conclusions, make informed decisions, apply knowledge to new
situations, and create new knowledge." In advance, review the
new standard with its sub-skills in this document:
http://www.ala.org/ala/aasl/aaslproftools/learningstandards/AASL_Learning_Standards_2007.pdf.
Please have it available to view during the meeting. You
will be joined by members of the American Association of
School Librarians, the Illinois School Library Media
Association, and ISTE Media Specialist SIG members. To
participate, please do the following:
1. Prior to Monday, go to www.secondlife.com. Click the
orange button to create a free avatar account.
2. Download the client viewer software from the link at the
bottom left of the home page.
3. Open the viewer, enter your avatar name and password,
and watch yourself “be born” into Second Life (SL)
4. Spend a little time participating in orientation
activities and familiarizing yourself with the area.
5. On Monday evening, log onto SL about 15 minutes prior to
the meeting. Search for Elaine Tulip and instant message me
to be teleported to our orientation location.
See you online!
