Dear Librarians:

Reminder: Tonight at 8 pm we will have our November "Orientation to Second Life" meeting. We will review basic skills related to moving, communicating, and searching in Second Life (SL). Attending this session will prepare you for upcoming SL events.

If you do not yet have an SL account, you can create a free account at www.secondlife.com <http://www.secondlife.com/> .

1.	Click on the orange button to create the free account, then follow the registration screens.
2.	Download the client software (SL viewer) found from a link at the bottom left of the home page.
3.	Start the software, enter your avatar name, and password. Watch yourself "be born" in SL.
4.	Using "search" for persons, find Elaine Tulip and then instant message me to be teleported to our virtual office.

Other SL News:

*	Read our SL Blog at http://blogs.cuip.net <http://blogs.cuip.net/> to see recent events and news about an art exhibit created by Daruma Picnic, a librarian at the School of the Art Institute Library
*	See the China Café blog at http://chinacafe.cuipblogs.org <http://chinacafe.cuipblogs.org/> . At 8 am this Sunday, Nov 11, there will be a lecture on the history of Chinese tea followed by a tea party with conversation. The purpose of the café is to provide a forum for Chinese persons to practice conversational English with native speakers. It is taught by an ESL instructor in Shanghai. [Note: the early time accommodates Chinese adult learners.]
*	This Tuesday, Nov 6th at 8 pm, ISTE will hold a speaker program with information for adults about the SL Teen Grid for teens ages 13 -17.
*	This Friday, November 9th at 8 pm there will be a Librarians Social for the librarians of Second Life. IM me for a teleport.
*	The Illinois Interlopers professional networking social group will hold a party on the DePaul University sim on Friday, Nov 16th at 8 pm. IM me for a teleport.
*	On Monday, Nov 19th at 8 pm we will hold the November Virtual LLC meeting. This month we will discuss the new AASL Standard #1 - "Learners use skills, resources, and tools to inquire, think critically, and gain knowledge."

Thanks,
