I did one and it was very successful. I started by teaching the class the different poetry forms( cinquain, haiku, limericks, narrative, lyric...etc.) .  I required all my students to create different types of poetry at least 5 each.Then we created committees( program, invitation, refreshment, music, reception, decoration,clean-up) for the event.  Each team read their poetry.  They used drums and other stuff for their background while students were reading their poems. Students invited teachers and students to judge their team presentation. Prizes were given to the best team and individual presentation. The students were 8th graders.  They stayed with me for 5 weeks.
