Dear Librarians:
On Monday, October 29th from 8pm - 9pm, we will hold our
October Virtual LLC meeting in Second Life. This month's
topic will be "A First Discussion of the new AASL Information
Literacy Standards". [See
http://www.ala.org/ala/aasl/aaslproftools/learningstandards/standards.cfm]
To join our discussion, log onto Second Life approximately ten
minutes in advance. Then instant message Elaine Tulip for a
teleport to our meeting location. Note: Our Dept of Libraries
Virtual Office has temporarily been relocated to another
location pending the purchase of our own island. Please
familiarize yourself with the new standards in advance.
While this meeting is not recommended for those who are not
familiar with Second Life, to prepare for upcoming meetings,
you can take the following steps:
1. Use a computer that meets minimum hardware requirements
for Second Life with a high speed Internet connection. See:
http://secondlife.com/corporate/sysreqs.php
2. Create your free avatar account at www.secondlife.com
3. Download the client software at
http://secondlife.com/community/downloads.php
4. Log onto Second Life to practice skills such as movement,
communicating, searching, and teleporting.
5. Email me if you would like to arrange a time to meet in
Second Life or attend the next orientation meeting on Mon, Nov 5
I look forward to seeing you online.
Thanks,
Lisa Perez, Area Library Coordinator
