Weston Woods has listening center packages of books on tapes with books in
Spanish. They're sold by the Scholastic Rep. So if you have money you can
call Dan Dunham at 708.268.2435.
Research shows that kids who are literate in their first language will more
easily learn a second. So encourage them to speak in Spanish, read in
Spanish and if possible, find someone who can teach them in Spanish. Sounds
like they need an advocate.

Books on tape are a great idea - I use them at Nightingale with ELL a lot.
Follett has Spanish Books and they are easy and reliable. I have found that
sometimes the kids can't read in Spanish.

Try contacting dept. of Language & Culture; perhaps your area has a
bi-lingual coach.

Two young ladies arrived today. One in third, one in fourth. They are my
first EVER Spanish-speaking students here at Carver Primary. We have never
housed bilingual materials. In fact, we usually pass them on to those who
can make them useful elsewhere.
I say Spanish-speaking because...well...they don't read Spanish.
No interpreter. No English. No written Spanish.
Help?
