Elementary Librarians Needed for Curriculum Team

The Department of Libraries would like to invite you to join a
curriculum team. This team will be working to develop K-8 curriculum
guidelines for CPS elementary librarians using the AASL Standards for
the 21st Century Learner and the benchmarks identified by the Standards
in Action. The result of this process will be a recommended K-8
curriculum that will then go to all CPS librarians for comment and be
completed by the start of the 2009-2010 school year.

The curriculum team will be comprised of 12 school librarians, 2 area
library coordinators, and representatives from other curriculum areas.
School librarians will work in teams of four and focus on grade level
groups: K-2, 3-5, 6-8. The work will begin with two full-day meetings at
the Department of Libraries and Information Services. The first meeting
will be held on Wednesday, January 28 and the second on Tuesday,
February 10. Substitute coverage will be provided on days the curriculum
team meets. After February 10 we will determine whether more meeting
dates are necessary or if work can continue online, through e-mail or
the Department of Libraries wiki.

If you are interested in working on our curriculum team, please respond
to the questions on the following page and return your application by
fax (553-6211) or through the mail run (GSR #80) to Connie Amon. The
deadline for applications is Wednesday, December 17, 2008. Applicants
will be notified of acceptance by Tuesday, January 6, 2009. We are
looking for a group of librarians that are endorsed and representative
of all areas of the city. If you have any questions, please contact your
Area Library Coordinator at 553-6210. We look forward to hearing from
you!
