Dear Librarians: See the attached application form and information
below to apply for this new grant opportunity from the Dept of
Libraries.
Thanks,
Lisa Perez
Area Library Coordinator
The CPS Dept of Libraries has received a grant from the Illinois State
Library to create educational resources in the virtual reality
environment Second Life (SL) (www.secondlife.com). The CPS Dept of
Libraries home in SL will provide virtual educational resources for CPS
teachers, librarians, and administrators including instruction in using
SL, lectures and workshops of professional interest, and 3D exhibits on
a variety of topics. As part of this grant, fifteen (15) schools will
have the opportunity to create individual spaces that support their
school's unique professional resource and collaboration needs.
About Second Life
Second Life (SL) is a multi-user virtual reality environment for adults
18+ with a robust and growing library and educational community. There
are many educational resources, distance learning opportunities, events,
and professional networking opportunities in SL. Dozens of universities
have established presences in SL in addition to the American Library
Association and the International Society for Technology in Education
(ISTE). Visit the CPS Department of Libraries blog at
http://blogs.cuip.net/dlis to see how we are currently using SL to meet
the professional needs of CPS teachers, librarians, and administrators.
We do not suggest accessing SL from school. This project creates
resources that teachers may utilize personally to support their
professional practices.

identify a colleague with whom to learn and create. Teams of one school
