Check out the Cable in the Class room website. It gives you all the
guidelines for programs as to taping and the length to which they can be
kept.

Subject: Re: [CPSLibraries] channel one

We got channel one this school year in classrooms 6-8. I use it as a
current event for the day. I do realize that there are commercials, but
there are commercials on the regular news as well. There are also
additional programs that you can watch that channel one has on their "guide"
channel. I try to run those when it is related to a class topic. Since it
is my first year, I am still learning how to remember go check the guide.
It does come out monthly.

I also use the system to show topic related movie curriculum. For example,
the 8th grade reads certain books and to differentiate the instruction, they
would show a movie and try to share or put them all in the auditorium. This
way, they can stay in their classroom and the teacher can work with a
smaller group of students and point out things from the novel.

I am hoping to see what rights I have to certain cable programs and see what
I can incorporate into the curriculum. I know the History Channel allows
certain access and I will be checking into that for topics that I know will
be used in our school. For example, our 3rd grade studies Chicago and if I
find a program that has Chicago history, I will work on permissions so I can
copy it and show it at the appropriate time for my 3rd grades.

I know those channels allow recording but it is always during the wee hours
of the morning. They cut out a lot of advertisements during that time. I
have done this before in another school system so I know it can be done. It
takes some effort, but it is fab when it gets in place.
