Dear Librarians:

Please see this message from the Board Office and the attached cover art picture:

The Wacker Manual was essentially a textbook version of Daniel Burnham's 1909 plan of Chicago. Authored by Walter Moody, an associate of Burnham and of Charles Wacker, the Wacker Manual was first published in 1911. By the end of the 1910s, the Wacker Manual was required study in almost every 8th grade classroom in Chicago and more than 70,000 copies had been printed and distributed.

This summer marks the centennial anniversary of the Burnham Plan, and CPS has been actively involved in the celebration. CPS and the Burnham Plan Centennial Committee would be extremely happy to know about any school-based copies of the Manual. If you know the whereabouts of any of these textbooks, please call Troup Howard, assistant to Board of Education Vice-President Clare Muñana, at 312.261.5264 or email trouphoward at ancoraassociates.com <mailto:trouphoward at ancoraassociates.com> .
